In an effort to hunt for planets outside our solar system, the researchers found a planet which is considered the most heat. Planet called WASP-12b is lit in the temperature 2,200 degrees Celsius, and orbits its star faster and closer than any other planet.
The planet circling the star of the day. In comparison, the planets in our solar system orbit the Sun fastest is Mercury, which orbits the Sun once every 88 days.
To achieve such a fast orbit, the planet is very close to its star, a distance of approximately 3.4 million kilometers or just 2 percent of the distance of the Earth to the Sun.
"WASP-12b is an interesting celestial objects because it has the shortest running time as well as being the hottest planet," said Don Pollacco of Queen's University in Northern Ireland, which is one of the project researchers SuperWASP (Super Wide Angle Search for Planets).
WASP-12b is a gaseous planet, about 1.5 times the mass of Jupiter and its size is almost doubled. Planets circling a star 870 light years away as far from Earth, is especially important because it illustrates how close the distance a planet without being destroyed.
"There are limits to the distance because the closer a planet to the star, the stronger the effect of radiation and at one point, the planet will be destroyed by boiling hot star," said Pollacco. "Previously, people expect the impossible as a planet circling the star could in a day and get close."
The planet is also so hot that the temperature is similar to the temperature of some stars. Even so, he is not a star because its mass is not large enough to produce a nuclear thermal reactions that characterize a star.
